GLP-1 storage: how long can it be out of the fridge?

The number is on your carton, and it is not the same for every product — even for two products containing the same drug.

There is no single answer for “semaglutide” or “tirzepatide.” The in-use limit is set per presentation, not per molecule: an Ozempic multi-dose pen allows 56 days out of the fridge, while Wegovy — the same drug — allows 28. Check the carton you are actually holding.

Products below that contain the same active ingredient are listed separately on purpose, because their labels give different answers.

In-use limits from the FDA labels

These are the manufacturers' own figures, not our recommendation. Labels are revised, packaging differs by country, and your carton is the authority. If a product has been warmer than its limit, frozen, or out longer than the label allows, ask a pharmacist rather than guessing.

Why the same drug has two different answers

A reusable multi-dose pen is designed to be carried and used repeatedly, so it is tested and approved for a longer in-use window. A single-dose pen or syringe is not. That is why Ozempic's pen gets 56 days and Wegovy's single-dose pen gets 28 — same molecule, different device, different approved limit. Tablets work differently again: Rybelsus and Foundayo have no in-use clock at all and simply run to their expiry date.

What the labels agree on

Across every injectable here, three rules are consistent:

Common questions

How long can Ozempic be out of the fridge?

The Ozempic multi-dose pen may be stored for 56 days at 15–30 °C after first use, per its FDA label. The single-dose prefilled syringe is different: up to 28 days at 8–30 °C. Check which presentation you have, and confirm against your carton.

How long can Wegovy be out of the fridge?

Up to 28 days at 8–30 °C in its original carton, before the pen cap is removed, per the FDA-approved Instructions for Use. Wegovy's label says to throw the pen away if it has been frozen, exposed to light, above 30 °C, or out of the refrigerator for 28 days or more.

Is Mounjaro the same as Zepbound for storage?

Yes — both are tirzepatide from the same manufacturer and their storage sections are word for word identical. A single-dose pen or vial allows up to 21 days unrefrigerated at or below 30 °C; an opened multi-dose vial or KwikPen is discarded after 30 days at room temperature, 30 days after first use, or 4 weekly doses, whichever comes first.

What happens if it got too warm or was frozen?

Every label here says not to use a product that has been frozen, and several say to discard it if it has been above 30 °C. This page cannot tell you whether a specific pen is still usable — that is a question for the pharmacy that dispensed it, and they can usually answer it in a phone call.

Do the tablets need refrigerating?

No. Rybelsus and Foundayo are stored at 20–25 °C with excursions permitted to 15–30 °C, and they have no in-use day limit — they run to the printed expiry date. Rybelsus should stay in its original bottle to protect from moisture; Foundayo is light sensitive and should stay in its bottle and carton.
